Michael C. Hall Teases Dexter, Charley Reunion in Season 2

Michael C. Hall previews the Dexter and Charley reunion in Dexter: Resurrection season 2, calling the dynamic between the two killers "a mess."

Michael C. Hall is previewing a complicated reunion between Dexter Morgan and Charley Brown when Dexter: Resurrection returns for season 2 on Paramount+ on Friday, Oct. 30. Charley, played by Uma Thurman, comes back with a partnership offer for Dexter, and Hall says the dynamic between the two characters will not be simple.

“It’ll be a mess,” Hall said of the Dexter and Charley reunion during a panel at New York Comic-Con, according to TVLine.

What Hall Said About The Dexter Charley Reunion

Hall described Charley as both a threat to Dexter and someone who understands exactly what he does, a rare combination given how carefully Dexter has had to hide his nature throughout the franchise. According to Hall, Charley’s return exploits Dexter’s appetite to be seen, a need he does not always acknowledge even to himself.

Hall said Dexter is at his most vulnerable when someone feeds that unacknowledged appetite, which makes him susceptible to whatever Charley is offering. Charley is a killer in her own right, Hall noted, though he was clear that she does not kill the way Dexter does.

What It Means For Season 2’s Character Dynamics

When season 2 begins, Dexter is working through a kind of mid-life crisis, according to Hall. That context matters for how the Charley storyline plays out. Hall explained that Dexter is a thrill seeker and daredevil who gets bored easily and genuinely enjoys backing himself into corners just to find a way out.

That restlessness appears to be part of why Charley’s offer lands when it does. Hall also pointed to an unexpected wrinkle: Harry, Dexter’s late father figure and moral compass throughout the series, reportedly advocates for Dexter to accept Charley’s offer. Hall called that development surprising given how Harry has typically guided Dexter toward caution rather than risk.

Hall’s comments are a tease of the dynamic between the two characters rather than a detailed account of the season’s plot. The specifics of Charley’s partnership offer, and how Dexter ultimately responds to it, were not detailed in his remarks.

Background On Dexter: Resurrection

Thurman’s Charley Brown previously served as head of security for Leon Prater in the show. Her return in season 2 brings her back into Dexter’s orbit with a business proposition rather than a confrontation, at least as the season opens. Total Apex has previously reported that season 2 introduces two new killers into Dexter’s world, adding more pressure to an already crowded season.
