Marvel Comics has confirmed Ezra Bridger’s return in a new limited series that bridges the gap between the first two seasons of Ahsoka. Star Wars: Ahsoka, Escape from Thrawn, announced at New York Comic Con, launches its first issue on Jan. 20, 2027, according to Polygon.
The five-issue comic series fills in the story of what happened to Ezra after he stowed away aboard Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship to escape his exile on the world of Peridea. That event sets up the character’s path between Ahsoka season 1 and the upcoming second season, Polygon reported.
What The Ezra Bridger Ahsoka Comic Reveals
Dave Filoni is providing the story for Escape from Thrawn, with Rodney Barnes writing the series and Andrea Di Vito handling the art, per Polygon. The comic is described as a companion story to Ahsoka season 2, meaning it covers ground the television series itself will not directly show.
The confirmed premise centers on Ezra sneaking aboard Thrawn’s ship rather than remaining stranded on Peridea, the planet where the character was left at the end of the first season. That choice puts Ezra in direct proximity to Thrawn well before the pair resurface in the main galaxy.
What It Means For Fans
For fans following Ezra Bridger’s arc, the comic confirms he and Thrawn are not simply teleported back into the galaxy between seasons. Instead, there is an actual recorded journey connecting his exile to his next on-screen appearance. In Ahsoka season 2, Ezra and Thrawn return to the main galaxy, with Thrawn moving to attack the New Republic, according to Polygon.
What the comic does not spell out is how prominent Ezra’s role will be once season 2 begins, or how his comic-book journey directly feeds into specific scenes viewers will see on screen. Those story details have not been disclosed. It is also unclear whether Escape from Thrawn is the only additional Ezra content planned to bridge the two seasons or part of a wider rollout.
Background On Ahsoka And Ezra’s Story
Eman Esfandi portrays Ezra Bridger in the Ahsoka live-action series. The character’s exile alongside Thrawn on Peridea was a central cliffhanger from the first season, and the comic series marks an official effort to document what happened to him in the interim rather than leaving the gap unaddressed.
Ahsoka season 2 is scheduled for release at the beginning of 2027, according to Polygon, after the season saw a brief delay earlier this year. No specific premiere date for the season has been announced.
What’s Next
Star Wars: Ahsoka, Escape from Thrawn debuts its first issue on Jan. 20, 2027, from Marvel Comics, as Polygon reported. Ahsoka season 2 follows sometime in early 2027, though Lucasfilm has not released an exact premiere date.
