Dexter: Resurrection season 2 brings 2 shocking new killers

Dexter: Resurrection season 2 hits Paramount+ Oct. 30. The trailer pits Michael C. Hall's aging antihero against killers played by Brian Cox and Dan Stevens.

Dexter Morgan needs glasses now, and his problems are only getting bigger. Paramount+ released the official trailer for Dexter: Resurrection season 2 on Thursday, Oct. 1, dropping Michael C. Hall’s aging vigilante between two new serial killers ahead of the show’s Oct. 30 return.

The sequel series from showrunner Clyde Phillips streams only on the Paramount+ Premium plan, according to Variety.

Two killers from opposite generations

Brian Cox joins Dexter: Resurrection season 2 as Don Frampt, the New York Ripper, who terrorized the city years ago. Dan Stevens plays Owen Stark, the Five Borough Killer, whom Deadline calls the season’s second big bad.

The official season description sets up the contrast. One killer has “decades of notoriety and a lifetime of kills behind him,” while the other is “a fresh young face terrorizing New York in ways no one has ever seen.”

That same logline says Dexter “battles a new and unexpected enemy: a mid-life crisis,” as he and his son Harrison (Jack Alcott) “face their darkest chapter yet.” Harrison, meanwhile, keeps chasing justice on his own terms.

There is a third threat, too. Gabriel Luna guest stars as Ray Ballard, a killer who goes by the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger, Deadline reported.

A trip to the optometrist set the tone

The aging theme of Dexter: Resurrection season 2 first surfaced in a Sept. 8 teaser. In it, Dexter sits for an eye exam and picks out a new pair of frames, TV Insider noted. Variety describes the full trailer as showing an older, wiser Dexter boxed in on both sides.

Dexter: Resurrection season 2 cast returns and newcomers

Uma Thurman, Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Desmond Harrington and James Remar are all back. Harrington, whose Joey Quinn made a brief appearance in season 1, has been promoted to series regular.

Krysten Ritter returns as a guest star in her role as Mia LaPierre, also known as Lady Vengeance. Per Deadline, it is still unclear whether the character is alive or will return as a ghost.

Bokeem Woodbine joins as Capt. Mixon, and Nona Parker Johnson plays Fiona Mixon. TV Insider also reported that David Zayas was photographed on set, a sign that Angel Batista could be back after the Dexter: Resurrection twist Zayas discussed last year.

Premiere date and producers

Dexter: Resurrection season 2 premieres Friday, Oct. 30, on Paramount+. Hall executive produces with Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns. Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios produce the series.
