ABC
ABC shows, the broadcast network behind long-running hits and major live events.
About ABC
ABC (American Broadcasting Company) is one of the major U.S. broadcast television networks, owned by The Walt Disney Company. Alongside long-running scripted hits, ABC is a major home for live event programming, including awards shows and sports, and carries a mix of comedy, drama, and reality programming aimed at a broad general audience.
As part of Disney, ABC often benefits from cross-promotion with the company's wider portfolio of franchises and talent, while continuing to operate as a traditional free, over-the-air broadcast network.

| Compared To | Key Difference |
|---|---|
| NBC | Both are legacy broadcast networks with decades-long rivalries in primetime drama and late-night, though ABC leans more on Disney-aligned franchises like Marvel and Star Wars for crossover programming. |
| CBS | ABC has traditionally skewed toward serialized drama and reality competition (Grey's Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars) compared to CBS's procedural-heavy lineup. |
Trivia & Fan Culture
Born from an antitrust order
ABC exists because the FCC forced RCA/NBC to divest one of its two radio networks in the early 1940s; the sold-off 'Blue Network' became ABC in 1943.
Monday Night Football's long run
ABC aired Monday Night Football from 1970 to 2005 before the franchise moved to sister network ESPN, though ABC still simulcasts select NFL games.
Disney's gateway to broadcast
The 1995–96 Capital Cities/ABC deal was Disney's first major push into broadcast television and news, laying groundwork for its later streaming ambitions.
