The Ford Fathom price is set at $29,945, and Ford now has to prove it can build an electric pickup for that money. The figure includes a $1,595 destination charge, which puts the base sticker at $28,350, according to Wikipedia.
Ford named the truck on Aug. 6, 2026. It will be built at the company’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, with preorders opening in early 2027 and sales starting late that year, per Edmunds.
Why the Ford Fathom price is a challenge
The Fathom is the first vehicle on Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle platform, which the company revealed on Aug. 11, 2025. CEO Jim Farley called the effort a “Model T moment” for Ford, according to Tom’s Guide.
Hitting a sub-$30,000 price with an electric truck takes more than a cheaper battery. Ford says the platform uses 20% fewer parts and 25% fewer fasteners than a typical vehicle, and it requires 40% fewer workstations on the assembly line. Assembly is also 15% faster, Tom’s Guide reported.
A small California-based “skunkworks” team led by a former Tesla engineer spent years developing the platform, which Ford plans to use for other vehicle types beyond trucks.
When Ford unveiled the platform in 2025, it described the first vehicle as a four-door midsize pickup arriving in 2027 for about $30,000. Ford also said it planned to use lithium iron phosphate battery chemistry with a capacity between 49 and 60.48 kWh, a smaller pack than many modern electric trucks carry, according to Tom’s Guide.
That choice is central to the Ford Fathom price. Smaller LFP packs keep costs down, and Tom’s Guide said the chemistry is also suited to more frequent full charges and a longer life. Ford has not confirmed final battery details for the production truck, so those 2025 figures should be treated as early targets rather than final specs.
Reports differ on the truck’s size. The 2025 announcement called it midsize, while Edmunds describes it as a small pickup, and Wikipedia says it is roughly the size of the Ford Maverick.
Motor1 examined the production challenge in a report headlined “Ford Fathom EV Pickup Production Faces Challenges Ahead Of 2027 Launch.”
What we know about the Ford Fathom price and features
Ford describes the Fathom as a small electric pickup. Edmunds reports that its interior space exceeds a Toyota RAV4 and that the cabin is roomier than the midsize Ford Ranger. All models are BlueCruise-capable, and the truck includes embedded Apple Maps navigation along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The company says the name reflects how it can “fathom” possibilities once thought beyond reach. Ford has not yet released detailed specifications such as horsepower, battery capacity or range, according to Edmunds, which leaves buyers guessing about what the base Ford Fathom price includes.
Towing is one open question around the Ford Fathom price. Motor1 reported that Ford will not say whether the $29,945 truck can tow a trailer, a detail many pickup shoppers will want before they place a preorder.
How the Ford Fathom price fits the EV market
Cheap electric trucks are rare in the United States. A Ford Fathom price of $29,945 would put the truck well below most electric pickups on sale today, and it gives Ford a headline number as automakers rethink their EV plans. What’s next
Preorders are expected to open in early 2027, and deliveries should begin late next year. Ford is likely to share more about trims, range and towing before then, which should clarify what the Ford Fathom price actually buys.
