Blue Planet III: 6 episodes set for a powerful, exciting return

Blue Planet III pairs Hans Zimmer and Jade Thirlwall on “Into the Deep (Seas Cry)” ahead of the six-episode documentary’s return.

Blue Planet III is bringing together composer Hans Zimmer and singer Jade Thirlwall for “Into the Deep (Seas Cry),” an original song written for the BBC’s ocean documentary. The track received its first public play on BBC Radio 1 on Oct. 6, alongside the announcement of their collaboration.

The song is also available through music streaming services as part of the soundtrack. Its release gives listeners an early piece of the project while the documentary’s broadcast is still ahead.

Blue Planet III brings music into the ocean story

Thirlwall, who performs as Jade and previously belonged to Little Mix, wrote the track with Zimmer and Thom Lukas of Bleeding Fingers Music, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The collaboration connects her pop background with Zimmer’s work composing music for film and television.

Jade described the opportunity as a special project and recalled her admiration for the series and its narrator, David Attenborough. The song was created for this documentary, bringing the performers into a franchise whose ocean photography and narration are central to its identity.

A musical connection with the previous series

The collaboration follows an earlier pairing of established artists with the franchise. Radiohead and Zimmer contributed music to “Blue Planet II,” performing with the BBC Concert Orchestra. “Into the Deep (Seas Cry)” continues that link between the documentary and original music.

Listeners can hear the new track before watching the finished episodes. Its release is a separate part of the rollout, rather than the premiere of the television series itself.

Six episodes and years of production

The BBC Studios Natural History Unit spent about 4 1/2 years producing the new series. Six hourlong episodes are planned, with Attenborough returning as narrator. He turned 100 earlier in 2026 and has narrated the franchise since its beginning.

The planned broadcasts cover BBC One and iPlayer in the United Kingdom and BBC America in the United States. Those outlets will carry the documentary, while the soundtrack offers a way to hear its new musical collaboration beforehand.
