Hit a locked gate in the main story of NCSOFT’s fantasy MMORPG, and the Aion 2 Ascension Gauge is almost certainly the reason. Players have to fill the meter to 100% before certain Episode quests open, according to a Video Games Chronicle guide. The fix is simple once you know where the progress comes from.
What the Aion 2 Ascension Gauge does
As you move through the story Episodes, the game stops you at set points with a locked gate. You can’t continue until the gauge is full. That pushes you out of the main storyline and into the world’s optional content, mainly Regional quests.
Regional quests are the side missions tied to each zone. They are separate from the Episode quests that carry the main plot.
How to fill the gauge
Finishing Regional quests in any region is the main way to raise the meter. Each one usually adds just under 5%, so filling the Aion 2 Ascension Gauge from empty with side quests alone would take roughly 20 to 21 of them, based on that figure.
The good news is that you rarely need to go that far. Episode quests fill the gauge too, so a player who follows the story only has to make up the difference. VGC says a player who focuses on the story may need only three or four extra Regional quests.
New Regional quests land in your Journal automatically when you meet quest givers. Use the in-game Map to find where each one starts.
The fastest route through the Episodes
The quickest approach is to alternate between the two quest types instead of stopping to grind:
- Play through an Episode until you reach the gate.
- Complete a few Regional quests in the nearby region.
- Return and continue the Episode.
Done this way, the Aion 2 Ascension Gauge fills as you explore, and you avoid long detours.
Why the Aion 2 Ascension Gauge gate exists
The guide does not say why the gauge exists. It appears to keep your level in step with the story, stopping players from rushing through Episodes while under-leveled and nudging them into the open world. That is an inference about the design, not an official statement from NCSOFT.
Where Aion 2 stands now
Aion 2 launched in South Korea and Taiwan in November 2025. The global version arrives Oct. 5 on PC through Steam and NCSOFT’s PURPLE launcher for players in North America, South America, Europe and Asia, MassivelyOP reported. Founder’s Pack buyers got a head start that began Sept. 30.
