The Tilda Swinton memoir has a title and a date. “Material Evidence,” her debut memoir, is set for autumn 2028 from Farrar, Straus and Giroux, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Tilda Swinton Memoir: A Life Told Through Objects
Instead of a chronological life story, the book uses objects as doorways into Swinton’s past. They include a christening dress, a letter, a wooden leg, a sweatshirt, embroidery silk and a photograph. Swinton called it “a book about curiosity.”
Swinton called the book “a trail of breadcrumbs through the forest.” FSG president Mitzi Angel said the objects “vibrate with meaning and memory,” and called the book “full of humor, insight and appreciation for detail that might otherwise go unnoticed.”
In the Tilda Swinton memoir, she says she is interested in “the difference between that elusive spirit that we each, uniquely, constitute” and “that solid matter which stays the same in its essence,” Dork reported. The announcement also follows her return to the stage in a revival of Man to Man at London’s Royal Court Theatre, per Dork.
Release Plans
Farrar, Straus and Giroux will publish the book in autumn 2028. No exact release date or price has been announced.
A Second Book for Swinton
“Material Evidence” follows “Tilda Swinton: Ongoing,” an art book published in September 2025 by Rizzoli, according to Dork. Swinton won an Oscar and a BAFTA for “Michael Clayton” and played the White Witch in “The Chronicles of Narnia” films.
