Chevrolet is pulling back on one of the Silverado’s standout features for 2027. The automaker is limiting the Multi-Flex tailgate, a clever design that folds down into a full-width step, to just three Silverado 1500 trims: Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2, according to Motor1.

That’s a major cut. In 2026, the Multi-Flex tailgate was available across most of the Silverado 1500 lineup. Buyers who want it on the Trail Boss or High Country will now pay $595, a jump of $150 from last year’s $445 price. The ZR2 still includes it as standard equipment.

What The Multi-Flex Tailgate Does

The redesigned tailgate’s inner portion folds down to create a step wide enough to climb into the truck bed. Chevrolet says the step can support up to 375 pounds, making it easier to access cargo in the back.

Which Trims Get It For 2027

The 2027 Silverado 1500 lineup consists of seven trims total: Work Truck, Custom, Silverado, Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country. The Multi-Flex tailgate is offered only on three of them:

  • Trail Boss, $595 option
  • High Country, $595 option
  • ZR2, standard equipment

Why The Silverado Multi-Flex Tailgate Availability Is Shrinking

Chevrolet significantly reworked the Silverado lineup for 2027, which likely explains the reduced tailgate availability. The truck gets a complete redesign including a new exterior, heavily revised interior, larger displays (including a standard 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster), and new small-block V8 engines. The truck retains the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel and features an upgraded 2.7-liter TurboMax engine option.

The Multi-Flex tailgate joins other advanced features like Super Cruise with trailer capability, which remains available on higher trims.

What’s Next

The 2027 Silverado 1500 is already entering dealerships. Buyers interested in the Multi-Flex tailgate should confirm availability with their dealer, since it’s now limited to those three premium and off-road-focused trims.
