Studiocanal and Deadpan Pictures are developing a television adaptation of Katie Kirby’s bestselling Lottie Brooks book series. The project marks the first time the bestselling pre-teen comedy will come to the screen.

What Happened: The Lottie Brooks TV Adaptation Announcement

Studiocanal Stories, the company’s in-house book-to-screen label, negotiated the rights to the nine-book series. Writers Josie Long and Holly Phillips are adapting the books for television.

Producer Ailish McElmeel is handling the project for Deadpan Pictures, which also produced Moone Boy and Video Nasty. M-K Kennedy and Paul Gilbert are overseeing the adaptation for Studiocanal, with Sarah Reese Geffroy supervising for Studiocanal Stories.

M-K Kennedy, Studiocanal Worldwide Television managing director, said of the adaptation: “From first crushes and friendship dramas to the never-ending awkward parade that is growing up, Lottie Brooks turns the chaos of adolescence into pure comedy gold. Katie Kirby has created an unforgettable character whose humour, vulnerability, and optimism have captured the hearts of readers around the world. We are thrilled to bring Lottie and her family to television with the exceptional talents of Josie Long and Holly Phillips deftly weaving spit-take laughs, mortifying embarrassments and touching moments of levity into every episode. Lottie is a wonderful example of our commitment to developing family-friendly franchises from beloved literary properties.”

What It Means For Fans Of The Book Series

The Lottie Brooks series follows its 11-and-three-quarters-year-old protagonist through the awkward transition to secondary school, described as “pre-teen Bridget Jones.” The nine books are published by Puffin and have sold more than 3 million copies worldwide in more than 30 languages.

Studiocanal Kids & Family will handle worldwide merchandising and licensing, signaling the company’s plans to develop Lottie Brooks into a broader franchise.

Background On Studiocanal Stories

Studiocanal Stories, launched in 2024 to adapt literary properties for film and television, joins other Studiocanal literary adaptations including the Paddington franchise, the BBC series War of the Worlds and the upcoming limited series How to Stop Time with Benedict Cumberbatch.

What’s Next For The Lottie Brooks TV Series

No cast or release date has been announced. The adaptation is being written by Josie Long and Holly Phillips.
