Jurassic Park / World

About Jurassic Park / World

Jurassic Park is Universal Pictures' dinosaur-centered franchise, launched by Steven Spielberg's 1993 adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel about a theme park populated by cloned dinosaurs. The original trilogy was followed by the Jurassic World trilogy beginning in 2015, which relaunched the franchise for a new generation while continuing its core premise of dinosaurs and humans colliding on a catastrophic scale.

The franchise is widely credited with major advances in visual-effects filmmaking, blending practical animatronics with groundbreaking computer-generated imagery that influenced blockbuster filmmaking for decades afterward.

Based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel, the franchise built its identity on blending practical animatronics with then-groundbreaking CGI dinosaurs under director Steven Spielberg, who directed the first two films and has remained an executive producer on every installment since. The series relaunched as Jurassic World in 2015, moving the setting to a fully operational dinosaur theme park before expanding further in subsequent sequels.
