What We Know About The Story

The light novel, titled Monster no Niku wo Kutteitara Ōi ni Tsuita Ken in Japanese, follows Mars, the 12-year-old first prince of the kingdom of Farune. Mars lives under constant threat of assassination and sneaks out of the castle to hunt monsters in a nearby forest, eating them instead of risking the poisoned meals served inside the palace walls.

The story establishes that consuming monsters makes a person stronger, a mechanic that ties directly into the political stakes of the series. The plot expands beyond Mars’s personal survival into wars and plots that stretch across the kingdom and the wider continent.

Background On The Novels And Manga

Daken began publishing the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in January 2022, with the most recent web update posted in January 2023. Cross Infinite World released the sixth novel volume digitally on Sept. 30, and Micro Magazine’s GCN Bunko imprint, which has published the series in compiled print volumes with Shiba’s illustrations since September 2023, will release the seventh volume on Oct. 20.

A manga adaptation illustrated by Karin Suzuragi launched in January 2024 in Hakusensha’s Young Animal Zero magazine. Hakusensha will publish the manga’s third compiled volume on Oct. 29.

What’s Next

White Fox has not announced a trailer, cast list or specific release window beyond 2027. Micro Magazine’s seventh novel volume arrives Oct. 20 and Hakusensha’s third manga volume follows on Oct. 29.
