It’s Tuesday and time for your daily devotional. Paul includes prayers throughout his letters that are as relevant today as they were in the 1st century. Believers should pray them often for their own spiritual maturity. In today’s daily devotional, Paul’s prayers are inspired by the Holy Ghost, and although he was praying for the Colossian church, God looked through the annals of time and had you in mind.

The Gospel of Jesus

Paul writes to the Colossian church after hearing about their faith in Christ and love for the saints. Their spiritual fruit is evident, as they walk in faith and love. However, mysticism, a form of heresy, had crept into the church, involving the worship of angels, elaborate ceremonies, and hidden knowledge.

Paul writes his letter without directly addressing these issues; rather, he emphasizes Christ’s sufficiency and gives rules for living a Christ-centered life. In your daily devotional, Christ is the head of the body; don’t let any other doctrine deter you from the gospel of Jesus Christ.

God’s Word is His Will

In Colossians 1:9, Paul has been praying unceasingly that they be “filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” This should be the prayer of every minister who serves the body of Christ. God’s Word is His will, and you won’t know it if you don’t read His Word. God’s Word isn’t a mystery; it’s a revelation.

Proverbs 2:6 declares, “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” In this daily devotional, David declared God’s word a lamp to his feet and a light to his pathway. In darkness, you stumble, but in God’s light, “the eyes of your understanding” are enlightened.

Walk Worthy of the Lord

Verse 10 says, “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.” It pleases the Lord when you walk in faith and obedience to His Word. Walking worthy of Him is operating in the Fruit of the Spirit, which includes love, peace, joy, gentleness, and temperance.

Also, your good works aren’t just for church or Christian settings; they’re manifested wherever you go. In your daily devotional, Proverbs 11:30 calls soul winners wise, for God desires souls added to His kingdom. Jesus’ parting words to His disciples were to go into all the world and teach the gospel. Telling others about Christ is walking worthy of the gospel.

Be Strong in the Lord

Paul continues, praying they are “Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.” In Ephesians 6:10, believers are to be strong in the Lord; His Word feeds and strengthens your spirit.

When Lucifer rebelled, God, who is all-powerful, immediately kicked him out of Heaven. He fell downward like lightning because he was no match. In this daily devotional, patience, longsuffering, and joy are seeds planted in your Spirit that grow as you practice them. Cultivate these fruits of the Spirit, so you can be strong in the Lord.

You Are to Let Your Light Shine

In Tuesday’s daily devotional, Paul gives thanks to God in verse 12, who has given them the “inheritance of the saints in light.” When Jesus, the Light of the World, returned to His Father, believers inherited His light. You’re to let your light shine so that others may be drawn to the light of Christ within you. In today’s daily devotional, God delivered you from darkness and translated you into the kingdom His Son rules. You are on God’s mind.
