Absolute Batgirl has arrived in Absolute Batman #24, as Barbara Gordon takes up a cowl and steps into Batman’s fight for Gotham. Her transformation is a major development for a series that has repeatedly tested Bruce Wayne’s ability to keep going.

Spoilers follow for issue #24. Barbara’s new role grows out of her faith in Batman and the loss of her father, Jim Gordon. The reveal gives that relationship a concrete new direction.

Absolute Batgirl takes up the cowl

As ComicBook’s account of Barbara’s transformation explains, the police officer refuses to accept that Batman murdered her father. She has been seeking answers from him through a cowl she recovered.

Bruce sends her coordinates to a tunnel hideout. There, she discovers cowls, a non-lethal shotgun and a modified version of Jim’s coat, equipment that lets her become the vigilante described as “the Bat.”

A familiar hero in a different Gotham

This Barbara belongs to the Absolute Universe, so readers should not assume her history matches the familiar version from DC’s main continuity. Her police background and her father’s death shape this incarnation’s path.

ComicsXF’s review of issue #24 highlights the combination of a batsuit and a trench coat. That design makes Absolute Batgirl recognizable while retaining a connection to this story’s Gordon family.

The issue is written by Scott Snyder, drawn by Nick Dragotta, colored by Frank Martin and lettered by Tom Napolitano. Its character moments connect Barbara’s decision with Alfred’s argument that Batman inspires people to act.

Bruce learns to accept help

The recruitment matters because Bruce actively reaches out. He supplies Barbara with a way to join the mission instead of simply waiting for another ally to find him.

That is the hopeful part of Absolute Batgirl’s arrival: the fight no longer rests entirely on one person’s shoulders. Her choice also gives Barbara agency after a storyline defined by grief, fear and accusations.

What readers can follow next

The reveal opens possibilities for an expanding Bat-Family, but it does not confirm which other characters will join. Future membership remains something to watch in subsequent issues rather than a settled roster.
