Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will return for its second season in March 2027 on Paramount+, and the show has added Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt as guest stars. The casting news came out of the Star Trek panel at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, where producers also confirmed the upcoming season will be the show’s last.
What Was Announced At New York Comic-Con
Nighy will play Nyk Ake, described as the estranged father of Nahla, the character portrayed by Holly Hunter. DeWitt will appear as Laytha Sadal, who serves as the First Lady of Betazed and the mother of Tarima, played by Zoë Steiner.
Both roles are billed as guest spots rather than series regular additions, according to Variety‘s report from the panel.
What It Means For Fans
Season 2 follows the cadets into their second year aboard the USS Athena, testing their ideals of leadership, friendship, romance and morality. The season features budding rivalries, diplomatic negotiations, a competitive tournament and the arrival of a mysterious new cadet whose existence raises questions with consequences beyond the classroom.
