Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Year Two Is Absolutely Unhinged

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is back for another year, and Sega clearly decided subtlety is for people who don’t like money. Year Two kicks off November 3, 2026, with a free Duel Mode, a pile of crossover packs, and a permanent price cut that makes the original seventy-dollar asking price look like a hostage situation. Did anyone actually predict a kart racer would outlast the Sega Dreamcast in terms of cultural staying power?

Sonic Racing Punches You In The Face

The marquee addition is a 1v1 Duel Mode, and it plays out like someone at Sega watched too many samurai movies and built an entire racing format around staring contests. In CrossWorlds you get a Duel Boost gauge that fills over time or by spamming items like a maniac. CrossWorlds also lets you peek at your opponent’s gadgets and position, which turns every race into a psychological standoff where you both know exactly how badly you are about to get humiliated.

The four flavors include Rival Duel offline against CPUs for a special machine, free online matchmaking, a Best-of-10 ranked event with medals, and custom Friend Matches. CrossWorlds keeps the chaos alive with that Best-of-10 format because nothing says friendship quite like ten straight losses to a guy named xXShadowFan69Xx.

The Grand Master Plate Is A Real Thing

Turns out the Grand Master Plate is not a steakhouse menu item; it is an actual gadget plate that adds a seventh Super Slot for 1-slot gadgets. The important restriction is that only one-slot gadgets fit in that Super Slot, and any gadget placed there gets its boosted effect cranked up even harder. I will die on this hill: this is the best part of the update because it rewards the kind of degenerate min-maxing that made me fail college statistics. Fifteen new gadgets also arrive on day one, so your inventory is about to get very crowded.

Godzilla Stomps In And Brings Friends

Season Pass Two costs 29.99 and rolls out six packs starting with Godzilla. The Godzilla pack includes the Godzilla Escape course plus three machines: Godzilla Cruiser, King Ghidorah Coupe, and Mothra Surf. CrossWorlds is now a game where a giant radioactive lizard races a blue hedgehog, and nobody blinks. Godzilla has been culturally relevant since 1954, and somehow this is the weirdest thing he has ever done, including that time he fought a giant moth and a robot version of himself.

Evangelion Shows Up To Ruin Your Day

January 2027 brings the Evangelion pack with the Tokyo-III course and racers Rei Ayanami plus Asuka Shikinami Langley. You get three EVA units as machines. CrossWorlds now has a crossover where the emotional weight of the source material could crush a small child, and yet we are using it to throw shells at a plumber. The original Neon Genesis Evangelion ended in 1996, and its final episode still makes less sense than a kart racer with a Persona crossover.

Sanrio Arrives With Rules Attached

Q2 2027 delivers Virtual Sanrio Puroland with Hello Kitty and Kuromi as racers, plus the Hello Kitty Apple Kart and Kuromi Charming Cruiser as machines. There is a catch that Sega buried at the bottom of the announcement: you cannot customize the machine parts on either vehicle, and the Virtual Sanrio Puroland course is not available in Mirror Mode. Sanrio has brand guidelines, and they are not messing around. CrossWorlds has officially become a museum exhibit that you can play, but some exhibits have velvet ropes.

Segaland And Midgar Keep The Weird Train Rolling

Q3 2027 brings Segaland with vehicles based on After Burner and OutRun arcade cabinets, which means you can literally race as an arcade machine. The Midgar Pack also lands in Q3 2027 and draws from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, though specific racer and machine details remain unconfirmed at this time. CrossWorlds now has Final Fantasy VII in the same game as Hello Kitty, and my wallet is crying in a corner. The April Fools joke about Sega Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast console vehicles turned out to be real, and I refuse to apologize for thinking it was a bit.

Persona And Super Shadow Close The Year

Q4 2027 closes with the Reload Revival Royal Pack from the Persona series with one course, two racers, and two machines. Bonus content includes a free Sega Controllers Decal Pack available now and a paid Sega Consoles Pack on November 3rd. If you own both Season Pass One and Season Pass Two, you unlock Super Shadow as a racer and the Super Dark Flare machine. CrossWorlds is charging you for the privilege of owning two passes just to get a hedgehog with a god complex. That is the most Sega thing I have ever typed, and I once defended the Sega 32X in a public forum.

The Price Cut Is The Real Winner

The base game drops permanently from 69.99 to 39.99, and the Digital Deluxe Edition falls from 89.99 to 59.99, with both cuts applying across all platforms. CrossWorlds at forty bucks is a steal even if you never touch a single DLC pack. I will die on this hill: a permanent price cut six months after launch is a sign that Sega actually wants people to play the game instead of just milking whales.

Sonic Racing has had a rocky history since the Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed days, but this roadmap feels like a genuine apology for every bad Sonic game from 2006 to 2011. CrossWorlds may not save the world, but it will absolutely save your next boring Saturday night.
