Von Scales, the husband of singer and reality TV star Trina Braxton, died early Thursday, Oct. 1, in Atlanta. He was 58. A family representative confirmed the Von Scales death to TMZ.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the statement read. “The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”

According to Complex, the statement was released through Scales’ publicist, David Robinson.

What we know about the Von Scales death

An official cause of death has not been released. Sources close to the family told TMZ that Scales died around 2 a.m. and had been dealing with heart problems.

Complex described Scales as an entrepreneur and reality TV personality. Just Jared also reported the news Thursday, citing the same family statement.

Who was Von Scales?

Scales and Braxton married in 2019, and their wedding was featured on the WE tv reality series “Braxton Family Values,” according to Complex. The couple later appeared together on “The Braxtons,” the follow-up series WE tv announced in February 2024. “Braxton Family Values” ran for seven seasons, from 2011 to 2020, with Scales part of the supporting cast, according to Wikipedia.

Scales proposed while the Braxton sisters were in Napa Valley filming the show. “We were in Napa Valley, you know, all the girls were together, we were filming and he just kinda, like, plopped the box on the table,” Braxton told Entertainment Tonight in April 2019.

Scales stood by Braxton through an earlier loss

Braxton has credited Scales with helping her after the death of her ex-husband, Gabe Solis. Solis died of cancer in December 2018 at 43, according to theGrio. The pair had separated in 2015 but stayed friends, and Solis helped raise Braxton’s sons, Eric and Caleb, ET reported.

“It was a very difficult time,” Braxton told ET. “My sons had a really difficult time as well, but you know, thank god for my fiance now. Hey, Von! You know, he really helped me through it, he stood right by me.”

The Von Scales death is the latest blow for the Braxton family. Trina’s sister Traci Braxton died in 2022 at 50 after a cancer diagnosis, Complex noted.
