The Game lawsuit UMG claims the label underspent the marketing budget for his 2022 album Drillmatic – Heart vs. Mind. His company, 100 Entertainment, filed the suit Sept. 30 in California Superior Court against Universal Music Group and Virgin Music Group, according to Complex and Billboard.
What the lawsuit claims
The complaint says the label promised a $500,000 marketing budget but spent only $179,274.79, according to Complex. It says none of that money went to radio. 100 Entertainment also claims it paid a substantial portion of the production costs for the music video for “Stupid,” which features Big Sean.
The suit says the shortfall hurt the album’s sales, streaming revenue and royalties. 100 Entertainment seeks at least $500,000 in damages plus court costs and attorneys’ fees, Complex reported. Its attorney is Michael Trauben, according to Digital Music News.
These are allegations in a complaint. They have not been proven in court.
