Stone Kite studio debuts 1 epic comic from Halo co-creator

The Stone Kite studio, launched by Halo co-creator Jason Jones and CEO Margaret Stohl, debuts with One Zero One, a 4-part comic about humans battling AI robots.

Thirty-five years after co-founding Bungie, Jason Jones has a new home. The Halo and Destiny co-creator has launched the Stone Kite studio in Los Angeles, and its first release is not a game but a comic: “One Zero One,” a four-part limited series based on a manuscript Jones wrote, IGN reported Thursday, Oct. 1.

The story pits humanity against an uprising of artificial intelligence-powered robots. The first issue is out now digitally on Stone Kite’s website, which is also taking preorders for print copies.

Who runs the Stone Kite studio

Jones partnered with fellow Bungie alum Margaret Stohl, who serves as CEO. Stohl is the author of 14 books and has also written video games and Marvel comics, according to IGN.

The Stone Kite studio plans to build each story across several formats at once instead of starting in one and adapting later. Stohl explained the thinking: “I’ve spent my career creating books, games, comics, film and television, and I’ve seen how often the medium that tells the first story ends up defining everything that comes after it.”

“Instead of starting in one medium and adapting outward, we bring the best global creators from different disciplines into the room from day one to shape the world together,” she added.

A lifelong goal for Jones

For Jones, the comic fulfills an old ambition. “I’ve spent my whole life making games, but I’ve always wanted to write,” he said, recalling bike rides along Lake Michigan to used bookstores to load up on science fiction paperbacks.

He credited Stohl as “the first person to believe I could write a book of my own.”

Life after Bungie

Jones co-founded Bungie in 1991. He was most recently its chief vision officer until that role was reportedly eliminated in layoffs Sony made at the studio earlier this year, IGN said, and the new venture appears to confirm his exit. Jones rarely gives interviews.

Bungie itself has had a turbulent 2026, from layoffs tied to Destiny 2 to the surprise news that Destiny 2 is returning after support was ended. Follow our gaming news for more on the Stone Kite studio as its next projects take shape.
