New Recall: Chips Ahoy! Baked Bites Recalled for Choking Hazard

Mondelēz Global LLC has issued a voluntary recall for two specific Chips Ahoy! Baked Bites Brookie products after an incorrect mixing process created small corn starch clumps. The company says the clumps are firm enough to pose a potential choking hazard, particularly for young children or older adults.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported, and the issue is limited to these two SKUs only — not the full Chips Ahoy lineup.

(If you’re tempted to call them “Clumps Ahoy,” you’re not alone, but we’ll keep that between us.)

What’s Being Recalled

  • 2.8 oz CHIPS AHOY! Baked Bites Brookie 4×8
    Best-by dates: May 9–12, 2026
  • 7.0 oz Brookie 5CT 12
    Best-by dates: May 12 & May 18, 2026

Why This Happened

Mondelēz says a mixing error caused small, hardened clumps of corn starch to form in some batches. While not harmful, they’re not supposed to be there — and they could be a choking risk if someone mistakes them for soft cookie bits.

Where The Chips Ahoy Were Sold

The recalled products were shipped to a limited number of retailers nationwide.
The company did not specify which stores or states, but emphasized the distribution was not widespread.

If You’ve Got These at Home

If you happen to have these exact Brookie Bites sitting in the pantry, the simplest move is to pull them aside and check the dates. No need for a dramatic sweep or a full-cookie intervention. Mondelēz is handling replacements and refunds, and they’ve been pretty straightforward about it.

Basically: give the bag a quick look, and if it matches the date window, let the company take it from there.

The Cookie Crumbles

This one’s a small, contained mishap — more of a quality‑control hiccup than anything headline-worthy. The rest of the Chips Ahoy lineup is totally unaffected, and no one has been hurt. It’s just a case of a batch that didn’t blend the way it was supposed to, resulting in those accidental little “Clumps Ahoy” moments we joked about.

Nothing dramatic, nothing widespread — just a quirky blip in snackland that’s already being handled.
