PlayStation 6 Handheld GPU “Canis” is Apparently Way More Powerful Than Xbox Series S
The PlayStation 6 has been heavily rumored to release next year or in 2028, and the closer we get to the upcoming release of Sony’s latest console, the more information that’ll come to light on what we can expect from its release. Speaking of which, new information on the PlayStation 6 has been leaked by a reliable insider, claiming that the console’s specs are way more powerful than the Xbox Series S. Here’s what’s been leaked, and what people had to say about the new information.
PlayStation 6 Handheld GPU Demolishes Xbox and Nintendo
On the NeoGAF online forum discussing the prospects of PlayStation 6 Portable’s rumored specs compared against the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series S, reliable hardware leaker Kepler_L2 offered their insight into Sony’s newest console, revealing that the PlayStation 6 ‘s GPU, also known as “Canis”, is massively ahead of Xbox Series S in Raster and in aspects like Ray Tracing and Path Tracing. And just to remind everyone, we are only talking about the rumored PlayStation 6 handheld, which isn’t even the home console.
When asked whether PSSR3 would be better than Switch 2’s upscaling, Kepler_L2 also mentions that the PlayStation 6’s rumored next-generation AI-upscaling technology, PSSR3, which, if the rumors ring true, will succeed the PS5 Pro’s PSSR2, is even better than the Switch 2’s DLSS2. Kepler_L2 does not elaborate where they recieved this information; however, other reliable leakers, such as Moore’s Law is Dead, have supported this information as well. Here’s their full post from the NeoGAF forum:
GPU is a bit ahead of XSS in raster (and ofc massively ahead in RT/PT)
Switch 2 only has DLSS 2 (CNN) and some games even use the worse “DLSS Lite”. FSR5/PSSR3 will be better IQ than even current DLSS 4.5. Switch 2 only has DLSS 2 (CNN) and some games even use the worse “DLSS Lite”. FSR5/PSSR3 will be better IQ than even current DLSS 4.5
What Have People Been Saying?
Some people have had a hard time believing Kepler_L2’s claims that the PlayStation 6’s specs massively overpower current consoles. Here’s a reply from another user, who has since been banned from the forum, questioning the authenticity of Kepler_L2’s information:
Only thing I’ve heard for sure is it being about halfway (?) into PS5’s raw power, and more powerful in general than the Switch 2 (but not as much as the gap between PSP and DS, and PS Vita and 3DS). I’ve read conflicting thoughts in comparisons between Xbox Series S (ones suggesting that it’s more powerful, others that it isn’t).
Also, I’ve been more excited over just the simple idea of a new PlayStation handheld than anything else, so please drop your personal bullshit (I don’t even remember who you are, btw).
PlayStation 6 2027 – 2028 Rumored Release

Over the past year and a half, rumors and leaks have come out regarding the upcoming release of Sony’s newest console. The first leaks on the console first surfaced last April, and since then, Sony has yet to reveal any official information regarding the console’s release; however, many reliable leakers have revealed some pretty juicy information.
Since last year, many of the rumors and leaks have claimed that the console will be released next year or in 2028; however, Sony hasn’t revealed a release date yet. Other rumors and leaks include reports from mid – 2025, which suggest that the design is already being finalized and entering early validation stages. And the most recent leaks suggest the PS6 will be around 50% more powerful than the PS5 Pro, and will be released with a handheld version. Only time will tell how authentic these leaks are, and fans can’t wait for Sony’s official announcements.
