WWE 2K26 Lets Players Commit Acts Of Murder
Despite the series’ diminishing returns as a consequence of its annual release schedule, the gaming community still flocks to check out each new WWE 2K entry. The updated roster, nostalgic showcase modes, and similar new additions are a treat worth savouring if you’re willing to stomach the heartburn from the awful live-service elements that permeate so much of the experience. What keeps bringing players back year after year, despite these obvious frustrations?
WWE 2K26 Embraces Beautiful Absurdist Chaos
But when WWE 2K26 isn’t trying to be a card-based slot machine, it’s a bloody good time. It can melt away the hours once you turn off the stamina system, lower the difficulty, and put your favourite wrestlers against one another in the most absurd scenarios possible. If you have a dream match in mind, chances are the game’s roster can accommodate it and then some.
It still gets in its own way when trying to imitate the faux-realism of professional wrestling over its larger-than-life spectacle, but this year’s entry allows players to circumvent that thanks to one massive change: ragdoll physics. How does tossing realism out the window actually improve the experience?
Smackdown: Here Come The Pain’s Spirit Returns
The reason why gamers remember the likes of Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain and other wrestling games from the PS2 era is because they weren’t concerned with realism at all. Instead, those classics opted to embrace arcade-inspired gameplay defined by simple combos, cool finishers, and easy-to-define goals in most matches.
But ever since 2K took ownership of the WWE license, it has tried to turn the franchise into a prestige affair similar to the NBA or NHL, failing to truly realise why people enjoy professional wrestling in the first place. Is it really so hard to understand the appeal of the spectacle? The craft of wrestling requires immense physical prowess to put on excellent matches, but the entire charade is make-believe.
That’s why millions of others love it so much, going into weekly episodes of Raw or Dynamite knowing this is a form of anime-inspired musical theatre with hints of homoeroticism. All the good stuff. Shouldn’t the games take inspiration from this definition, rather than pretend players seek out realistic recreations of grapples or endless minigames?
Weapons, Platforms, And Gimmicks Everywhere
It’s why so many recommend turning down the difficulty and nuking the stamina system. For years now, these added details have been little more than barriers to enjoyment. WWE 2K26 still suffers from an occasionally subpar combat system, but its flaws are easy to forgive thanks to the addition of ragdoll physics that pretty much allow players to commit acts of murder from great heights at any moment. Who doesn’t want to see their favourite superstar turn into a floppy ragdoll mid-match?
The new brawl stage, known only as Scrapyard, features countless weapons, platforms, and absurd gimmicks to play with during matches. Jumping into it with seven other AI opponents and watching all the chaos unfold is a beautiful thing. Watching occasionally broken AI beat the living crap out of both the player and each other in pursuit of victory is hilarious entertainment, especially once climbing a ladder to look down in terror as they struggle to navigate the environment. Can any other game match this level of unintended comedy?
AI Jumps Off Ledges, Ragdolls Every Time

These physics don’t just surface in eccentric match types either. They’ll often appear in a move that goes wrong in standard exhibition bouts or during high-flying maneuvers. One particular platform sits incredibly high off the ground, connected to a long pole that players can precariously walk across to reach the other side.
But there is no way to get the AI to follow because they’re too stupid to do so. Instead, they simply jump off the nearest ledge, which happens to be a long, old drop to the ground that causes them to ragdoll in spectacular fashion. Then they’ll get up and do this all over again, setting in motion a perpetual slapstick comedy routine like no other. What other game provides this level of unintended hilarity?
The Funniest Thing Seen In Wrestling Games
It’s one of the funniest things ever seen in a wrestling game, and only possible because it disregards the realism that this series has held so close for so long. These physics make the act of playing WWE 2K26 more enjoyable by their presence alone. The pin and submission system remains woefully outdated and unbalanced.
Likewise, the inability to turn off the stamina system in most modes means constantly putting up with needless sources of mechanical friction. But the ragdoll physics turn match types that involve high-flying moves, tables, and any sort of weapon into unexpected delights. Could this be the feature that finally turns the franchise around?
Viral Clips Spread Across Social Media Quickly
It brings that rebellious spirit from generations past back to life. Hopefully, 2K is looking at the viral clips being shared online right now and learning that people don’t want showcase modes requiring laughably specific instructions or career modes filled with weak voice acting. Gamers want back-to-basics arcade action designed to facilitate dream matches of the highest order. WWE 2K26 has become fun in ways this series has not been for a long, long time, and that has to be a quality worth building on.
Not every single sports franchise in the 2K catalogue needs to suddenly leave realism behind. But in the case of WWE, it benefits from embracing absurdist spectacle at every turn with features like this, unintentional hilarity or not. Now, if you need a break from reality, the scrapyard awaits with open arms and a whole lot of ladders.
