“The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes” Film Gets New Update with Latest Teaser

The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes

The shadow within the shadow returns.

Fans eagerly waiting for the next chapter in one of the hottest recent isekai anime, “The Eminence in Shadow”, will be excited to hear that its latest installment will return in 2027, titled “The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes”. As previously reported, animation studio Nexus will continue to handle the animation for the story, and Kazuya Nakanishi will helm as the film’s director.

The continuation of the story following season 2 is slated for a 2027 theatrical release. Included in this announcement are a new teaser visual, trailer, cast members, and story details.

First announced in 2023, “The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes” will be the franchise’s first and will be adapted from vol. 4 of the light novel series, written by Daisuke Aizawa.

Kicking off where season 2 concluded, the trailer confirms that “The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes” will focus on the hardships Cid (aka Shadow) and Beta face when they find themselves suddenly transported to Shadow’s former home of modern Japan, which has now been devastated by a horde of magical beasts.

As it wouldn’t be an “The Eminence in Shadow” story without Cid adopting multiple personas (such as his infamous John Smith and Mundane Man), the film will deal with Cid’s return to Japan, coinciding with his return to his original identity as Minoru Kageno in a ruined world, nothing like the one he left. Within that turmoil, he reunites with the woman he once saved, his former classmate, Akane Nishino.

This reunion with the only woman who knows of Cid’s past life, the return to a homeland ravaged by a beast invasion, and the shadowy human conspiracies look to swirl around Shadow in every direction.

Shadow’s return promises to be as chaotic as ever as his personal, delusional fantasy bleeds over to his former life, unfolding in some of the largest conflicts of the series to even rival other popular isekai anime on the market.

Sentai Filmworks describes The Eminence in Shadow:

Cid doesn’t want to be a flashy hero or a dastardly villain. He wants to operate in the shadows and pull the strings of society through wit and cleverness. So, when he’s isekai’d to another world armed with magic powers (and an overactive imagination), he forms Shadow Garden, an underground organization that fights an evil cult he totally made up. But while Cid happily roleplays his favorite antihero tropes, little does he know Shadow Garden’s recruits treat his every lie as gospel, and worse yet? That “fake” cult is actually real, and they’re not happy his power fantasy just impeded their plan to gain ultimate power in THE EMINENCE IN SHADOW!

Since its initial light novel release, “The Eminence in Shadow” series has surpassed 7.8 million copies and spawned a host of manga adaptations and spin-offs. Since the anime’s first appearance in 2023, the franchise has expanded into a second season and an online game. Thus, garnering high praise from the anime community both in Japan and abroad. The latest installment only looks to further grow the series’ popularity as one of the best isekai series on the market.

Both seasons of Eminence in Shadow are available via streaming on Crunchyroll.
