Charlie Cox King’s Ransom casting is official: the Daredevil star will lead the world premiere of Stuart Slade’s new play at the Donmar Warehouse in London this winter, playing small-time crook Vince Black, according to Playbill.

The Charlie Cox King’s Ransom role and plot

Playbill described Black as a small-time crook who assembles a band of misfits to steal Elvis Presley’s remains in 1970s Memphis. The Donmar billed the play as a Southern-fried dark comedy about grief, redemption and the pursuit of the American Dream.

Cast and creative team

The ensemble includes Blake Harrison as Rusty, Tom Fletcher as Charlie, Matthew Flynn as Mr. Bluefield, Leo Patrick as Jessie Lee, Jenny Rainsford as Rhonda/Jenny, Christopher Short as Elvis, Cherrelle Skeete as Mike and Ronnie Yorke as Red. Ruby Barker, Eira Kay and Trixie Willis will share the role of Martha, Theatre Weekly reported.

Matthew Dunster directs. Anna Fleischle designs the set, Jean Chan the costumes, Sally Ferguson the lighting and Holly Khan the sound. Chris Cox is the illusion designer.

Cox’s stage history

Cox last worked at the Donmar in 2010, when he played the title role in The Prince of Homburg. He starred in Harold Pinter’s Betrayal in London’s West End in 2019, a production that later moved to Broadway. Fans also know him as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again, which we have covered in our finale report and our Season 3 coverage.

When it opens

Previews for Charlie Cox King’s Ransom begin Dec. 5, and the show opens Dec. 16. It runs through Feb. 6, 2027.
