Amazon’s “Barbershop” TV series is heading to Prime Video on Feb. 10, 2027, with all eight episodes dropping the same day. The streamer released two first-look images of the cast Wednesday, Sept. 30, as it announced the premiere date for the continuation of the beloved film franchise, Variety reported.

“Barbershop” TV series release date and cast

  • Date: Feb. 10, 2027
  • Episodes: 8, all released at once
  • Platform: Amazon Prime Video
  • Lead: Jermaine Fowler as Travis “Trav” Walker

Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman round out the cast. Guest stars include Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker and Belmont Cameli.

What we know about the story

Fowler’s Trav comes home to Chicago wanting to carry on his grandfather’s legacy at Calvin’s barbershop, only to find that both the shop and the city have moved on without him. Amazon’s official logline, per Variety, says that as Trav “struggles to find his place among a new crew of barbers and loyal customers, Calvin’s remains what it’s always been, a place for sharp fades, sharp opinions, and a community that always has something to say.”

Behind the scenes

Marshall Todd, co-writer of the original film, runs the “Barbershop” TV series alongside Max Searle. Kevin Hart executive produces through his company Hartbeat, and Robert Teitel and George Tillman Jr., producers of the original films, are also on board through State Street Pictures. Oz Rodriguez directs and executive produces, Fowler is also an executive producer, and Amazon MGM Studios produces the series.

Why this matters

Calvin’s has been one of the steadier properties of the past two decades. The 2002 original spawned sequels in 2004 and 2016, and Variety puts the trilogy’s combined worldwide gross at nearly $200 million. Queen Latifah also headlined a 2005 spinoff, “Beauty Shop.”

Prime Video’s version is actually the franchise’s second shot at television. Omar Gooding led a Showtime sitcom adaptation in 2005, but that show didn’t make it past its first season.

With one of the original writers steering the new “Barbershop” TV series, the show brings the franchise back to Calvin’s chairs with a new generation behind them.
